Therapeutic Strategies in Cancer Biology and Pathology Book PDF summary

Currently, intensive effort is being directed toward the identification of molecular targets that can provide approaches to the development of novel therapeutic strategies in cancer management. This book focuses on metastasis-associated genes, metastasis promoter and suppressor genes, which relate specifically to behavioral alterations of cancer cells in epithelial mesenchymal transition, cancer stem cell maintenance and propagation, and to the acquisition of invasive and metastasis faculty. The function of these genes has implications for cell cycle regulation and cell proliferation and so constitute an essential element in cancer growth and dissemination. The emphasis in this book is on how appropriate these genes are as molecular targets and how practicable are the constituents of their signal transduction systems as potential candidates and how accessible they are to targeted therapy. Written in a straightforward and clear style with background information supporting the new research, this book will be useful for students and researchers in cancer therapies. Identifies molecular targets and their accessibility for therapeutic intervention Provides information on biological features of tumor development and dissemination Background information provided for each topic

Genetic recombination is a process of combining genes that leads to the generation of cell variants that possess different characteristics. This process is important to the evolution of a species and to embryonic growth and differentiation. However, this process can also lead to the development of abnormal, cancerous cells. This book reviews the role of genetic recombination in the generation of various cancers and how genetic alterations have been or could be employed to elicit clinically useful information. * Provides detailed

This text provides a comprehensive review for practicing pathologists to understand the molecular biology, diagnostics, and predictive markers and implications for therapy of uterine cancer. While molecular based therapeutic strategies for uterine cancer are not as well developed as for some other organ sites, these are the most common gynecologic malignancies and there have been many important recent developments that are discussed in this volume. Comprehensive chapters address essential information about endometrial carcinoma, uterine mesenchymal tumors, and cervical carcinoma and

Glioblastoma is the most malignant brain tumor that still remains incurable. It is such a deadly disease that patients do not survive more than a few months after diagnosis. Our understanding of the histopathology and molecular mechanisms of formation of glioblastoma is rapidly advancing so as to provide us clues for devising rational therapeutic strategies for treatment of this malignancy. It is important that we continue to improve our knowledge about the pathogenesis of this devastating disease and explore new
